Following the ADA Standards for Accessible Design ensures the space is usable for everyone:
- Maneuverability: A minimum 60-inch diameter clear floor space is required to allow a wheelchair to make a 180-degree turn.
- Toilets: Seats must be between 17 and 19 inches from the floor, with the centerline positioned 16 to 18 inches from the side wall.
- Showers: Roll-in showers should be at least 30 by 60 inches with no curb or a very low threshold (under 7/8″) to allow wheelchair access.
- Grab Bars: Must be installed around the toilet and shower at a height of 33 to 36 inches and be able to support at least 250 pounds.
- Sinks: Mounted no higher than 34 inches, providing at least 27 inches of knee clearance underneath for roll-under access
